Talks built onreal work.
For Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Power BI user groups, meetups and conferences, on four subjects: KPIs, charts, UI/UX and AI. Every talk shows a working build, and every one is free. I give them online, or in the room in Vienna.
6 talks, ready to give.
Each one can run as a talk, and most also as a hands-on workshop where everyone builds along. Every one is free.
- Azure · UI/UX · Talk, 30 min
Alerts people act on
Monitoring is a user interface too. Run logs, dashboards and alerts designed for the person who gets them at seven in the morning: what broke, what it affects and what to do.
What people take away- An alert that says what broke, which reports it touches and the first thing to try.
- Run logs written for the reader: what failed, why, and on which rows.
- Fewer, better alerts: when a failure should wake someone and when it can wait.
- Azure · AI · Talk or live demo, 45 min
AI inside the pipeline
Free text in the source, tidy columns in the report: an Azure OpenAI step in a Data Factory pipeline that classifies, extracts and summarises as the data loads, paid once per row and checked like any other step.
What people take away- Where an AI step belongs in a pipeline, and where it does not.
- Batching, and keeping each answer, so a row is sent to the model once.
- Answers checked against a schema, with the model and prompt kept beside each row.
- Fabric · Charts · Talk or live demo, 45 min
Charts that update while you watch
Streaming data in Fabric Real-Time Intelligence, from an eventstream to an eventhouse to a Real-Time Dashboard: which charts work when the numbers move every few seconds, and which only make people dizzy.
What people take away- From an eventstream to a dashboard tile, in one demo.
- Live charts: what stays still, what may move, and how often to refresh.
- When a live chart helps a decision, and when a daily report is the better answer.
- Fabric · AI · Talk or live demo, 45 min
AI in the lakehouse
Copilot in Fabric notebooks for the code, AI functions that classify, translate and pull facts out of a text column, and a data agent that answers questions from the gold tables. What each is good for, and what to check.
What people take away- Copilot in a notebook: where it saves time and where to read its code twice.
- AI functions on a column of text, run on silver and kept, not run again in every report.
- A data agent on the gold tables, with the instructions and example questions that keep it right.
- Power BI · KPIs · Talk, 30 to 45 min
One KPI, one definition
Why the same KPI comes out different in three reports, and how to define it once in the semantic model, with its time comparisons from one calculation group.
What people take away- Where two numbers for the same KPI usually part ways: the filter, the time window, the denominator.
- One measure per KPI, with a description everyone sees.
- Calculation groups instead of a copy of every measure per time window.
- Power BI · UI/UX · Talk or hands-on workshop
Reports people read at a glance
Themes, palettes and page layouts for Power BI reports, checked for contrast and colour blindness before anyone opens them.
What people take away- A report theme as one file: colours, fonts and visual styles set once, for every page.
- Palettes that still work for people with colour blindness, and how to check them.
- Page layouts that put the answer where the eye lands first.
Three steps, no forms.
- 01Write to me
Who comes, when, how long, and online or in the room. A rough idea is enough.
- 02Pick the talk
I suggest the talk that fits the audience and shape it to their level and to the time you have.
- 03Take it home
Each talk ends with the steps to build it yourself, so people can carry on the same evening.
Before you invite me.
Do you charge for a talk?
No. Every talk and workshop is free, for user groups, meetups and conferences. I give them online, or in the room in Vienna. If your event is somewhere else, an online talk works well, with time for questions at the end. Write to me with the date and the audience.
How long is a talk?
Most talks run 30 or 45 minutes, and the questions come on top. Several also work as a hands-on workshop, where everyone builds along in their own workspace. Tell me how much time you have. I shape the talk to fit it, and to the level of the people in the room.
Which subjects do the talks cover?
Four subjects, on Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Power BI: KPIs, charts, UI/UX and AI. There are 6 talks today. Each one shows a working build, not slides alone. The list on this page gives every talk with its length, its level and what people take home.
How do I invite you to speak?
Write to me through the contact page. Say who comes, when, how long you have, and whether it is online or in the room. A rough idea is enough. I suggest the talk that fits the audience, and we settle the details by email.
Let's find the talk.
Tell me about the audience and the date, and I'll suggest the one that fits. There is no fee.
